More than 100 works by 50 accomplished and up-and-coming Western New York artists will be showcased at the eleventh biennial exhibition Art in Craft Media 2009 (formerly known as Craft Art Western New York). The juried and invitational exhibition is presented by The Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College and supported by the Sylvia L. Rosen Endowment. Works will be on view from Sept. 12, 2009 through Jan. 3, 2010, with an opening reception on Sept. 12 from 6 ? 8 p.m. Art in Craft Media is the only regional craft art showcase in Western New York, attracting work by the region?s leading artists working in clay, wood, fiber, metal and glass. What: Call for Nominations: 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Buffalo State Alumni Association welcomes nominations from faculty and staff for the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award, presented annually at commencement. This is a very prestigious honor awarded to alumni who meet the following criteria: (1) Significant achievement and recognition in their field; (2) Dedication to community service, civic affairs, and volunteerism on a local, state, national, or international level; and (3) Demonstrated ongoing support for and loyalty to the college and its mission. A maximum of three awards may be presented each year (no posthumous awards are given) and all nominations are active for three years, including the initial year of nomination. Recipients must be able to attend the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15, 2010. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize an outstanding graduate who has demonstrated significant career and service achievements that have really made a difference in our world. The deadline for 2010 nominations is Friday, December 11, 2009. NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION HOLDS CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE MANAGEMENT CLASS Nov. 4 - NKF Offices-300 Delaware Ave. Suite 101-Buffalo, NY -5 p.m. BUFFALO, N.Y. - October 5, 2009 - The chronic kidney disease management class, entitled "Take Control of Kidney Disease through Knowledge," will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at 5 p.m. at the National Kidney Foundation offices, located at 300 Delaware Ave., Suite 101 Buffalo, N.Y., 14202. The program is for individuals who have been diagnosed in the early stages of kidney disease. The 90-minute class is taught by a registered dietitian and offers basic information about kidney function, chronic kidney disease, conditions that accompany chronic kidney disease like high blood pressure/hypertension and diabetes, slowing the progression of kidney disease, maintaining a healthy attitude, and nutrition and diet guidelines. The cost of the class is $35 and is covered for the majority of Independent Health, Univera, and BlueCross BlueShield members. Scholarships are available.
